The Sligo LCDC was established in 2014 ‘for the purposes of developing, coordinating and implementing a coherent and integrated approach to local and community development’ across the county. It is a statutory body with membership drawn from Sligo County Council, State agencies, the Community and Voluntary sector and the private sector.

As “Sligo Age Friendly Chair”, the secartery of Medb’s Dragon Warriors for Cancer survivours & a committee memberof Sligo Field Hertage Club; I have a great understanding of Sligo Community, its needs, challenges and opportunities. *All my volunteer activities created a strong network and connections within the local organizations, businesses and goverment bodies that would help my role. *My skills and Expertise in fundraising,event planning advocacy, managing projects will benefit the PPN network. *What will I do -Over the last few years, I have led multiple local initiatives, such as Walk and Talk (Age friendly), revamping the web site of SFC, and organising events for the Dragon Warriores. * I will conduct a survey amongst Sligo PPN members to understand their specific needs and priorities. *Partnered with local businesses and organizations to leverage resources and expertise. *Promote success stories of member groups to inspire and encourage others. *Create a small grant fund to support member groups in piloting innovative projects that address local needs (PPN innovation fund) *Pair experienced member groups with newer ones to provide guidance and support. (Mentorship Program) And last but not least will utlize technology to promote PPN goals and initiative through out Sligo community
Bachelor of Science & Post Grad. in Environmental Health Risk Management & Industrial Hygiene from I.T Sligo & DIT – Cathal Burgh Street. I have over 21 years work experience in industry ranging from construction, medical devices, pharma., education and training in public and private sectors. I am a mother of three young children. I am passionate about Sligo, our environment, creating opportunities for our people particularly our young people, our future, to work and live in a safe, healthy, self-sufficient
island of Ireland. Our islands valuable ‘natural resources’ to be protected and provided as a priority to the residents of Ireland. Our ‘surplus’ natural resources to be strategically negotiated at local level for the ‘good of the people’ not solely for economic benefits. I represent Sligo people on the Social Inclusion forum and I hope to promote social inclusion through community farming – growing local organic food for local use – protecting our environment and living healthier lives.
Bernadette has extensive experience of working within Social inclusion sector 20 years plus, she manages the Sligo Traveller Support Group Ltd working with one of the most marginalized groups in Ireland , she works closely with agencies in locally , regionally and nationally, while been able to work closely with agencies, at all levels Bernadette works with clients and families at one to one level as required, Bernadette has a good feed in and out mechanism where she brings issue to and from groups, we feel she would be an ideal candidate for this Social Inclusion role.
I am currently a regional manager with the RSA (Driver Testing). I am also Chair of the Cartron View Point Residents Association, a member of the board of management of St. Brendan’s N.S, Chair of the Finance Committee for St. Josephs Parish, a member of the State Enterprises Divisional Committee -(FORSA) and am a former Director of Sligo Northside Community Partnership. I have a keen and active interest in community work and local issues. I have a long history of community involvement and continually liaise with county council officials, local representatives, the Gardai and other agencies.
CADRA is delighted to nominate our member for a position on the LCDC. Pat has wide spread experience of working at both Local and National level across voluntary and statutory groups. He is passionate about the need to have local volunteers views inputted to all decision making. He has assisted our group with successfully achieving many projects in our Community and his contribution has always been focused on ensuring volunteerism is recognized. He is committed as a voluntary (unpaid) worker to represent the small voluntary groups and ensure such groups are rewarded for their voluntary efforts to develop communities and make them a welcoming and safe place to live.
