SUMMARY:Humanitarian Assistance Scheme
DESCRIPTION:While this is funding for individual households and not for community groups\, not for profit organisations etc. many of our subscribers offer support to individuals\, so we felt it important to include this information. \nThe Humanitarian Assistance Scheme is a permanent standby scheme that is activated only in response to specific severe weather events (such as major flooding or storms). \nAs of January 2026\, there is no nationwide “open call” for applications because the scheme is not a standard grant you apply for at any time. Instead\, it is triggered locally by the Minister for Social Protection when a disaster occurs. \nCurrent Status (January 2026)\n\n\nActive for Recent Storms: The scheme remains open for households dealing with the aftermath of Storm Éowyn\, Storm Ashley\, Storm Bert\, and Storm Darragh (which occurred in late 2024 and 2025). \n\n\nNew Activations: If your home is damaged by a flood or storm today or later this winter\, the scheme will be activated for that specific event. You should monitor the Department of Social Protection website or local news immediately following a weather warning. \n\n\nThere are 3 parts to the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme: \n\nStage 1 (Immediate need): Emergency support payment to help pay for food\, clothing\, personal items and alternative accommodation if you need it. Stage 1 is not means-tested.\nStage 2 (Damage to essential items and contents): Replacing white goods (fridge\, freezer)\, flooring\, basic furniture and other essential household items.\nStage 3 (Longer-term financial support for structural damage to your home): including plastering\, dry lining\, relaying of floors\, electrical re-wiring\, and painting.\nStage 2 and Stage 3 are means-tested.\n\nThe Humanitarian Assistance Scheme helps you meet the cost of essential needs and repairs rather than provide full compensation for losses or damage. The Scheme is administered by the Community Welfare Service. \nClick here for more info.
