Minister Joe O'Brien Launches Cavan Volunteer Website

· Making volunteering simpler and more accessible

· Supporting volunteering and active citizenship

Minister for Community Development and Charities, Joe O’Brien, has today (Tuesday, 28th March 2023) launched Cavan Volunteer Centre’s website to expand the attraction, preparation, and support of volunteers in the Cavan area.

Speaking at the event, Minister O’Brien said:

I am delighted to launch the Cavan Volunteer Centre website today. The new website will make attracting, training, and championing volunteers easier and will be an invaluable resource for the community and the people in the area.

Cavan Volunteer Centre’s new website aims to enhance the volunteering experience for people in the county.  The new website is an essential tool that will be used by the Volunteer Centre to connect Cavan volunteers with organisations that need their help.

The Minister continued:

Volunteering empowers people and provides them with the opportunity and framework to make a difference in their own areas. Every community relies on the commitment and contribution of volunteers; from sporting pursuits to TidyTowns to community care, many people’s lives are made better as a direct result of volunteers.

The National Volunteering Strategy, launched in December 2020, recognises, supports, and promotes the unique value and contribution volunteers make to Irish society. It is a five-year strategy led by the Department of Rural and Community Development, comprising a suite of policy and strategic initiatives to support not-for-profit organisations in community development, local development, social enterprise, and community and voluntary sectors.

Minister O’Brien concluded:

I am proud that my Department is to the fore of supporting volunteering and implementing the strategy. The ongoing implementation of the National Volunteering Strategy is promoting awareness and appreciation of volunteering, and putting in place stronger structures for volunteers and organisations. We are also working to develop greater diversity in volunteering opportunities and volunteers themselves.
