One of the key challenges for community groups with regard to renewable energy has been lack of grid capacity. Groups will often identify a site and undergo a feasibility study only to find that lack of grid capacity or distance to grid makes the project unviable. To arm community groups with knowledge on suitable sites, the SEAI have been commissioning county grid studies and presenting the findings to community groups.
